Are

About Common Sense Eating

From our kitchens in Costa Mesa, we prep and deliver healthy, delicious prepared meals – complete healthy meals and paleo, vegan, keto diet, and kid friendly options – throughout Orange County and to parts of L.A., Inland Empire, Ventura County, and northern San Diego County. See our delivery map.

Why choose Common Sense Eating for healthy meal prep?

We know you care about what you put in your body and what you put in front of your child, so we provide searchable nutrition information that includes portion size and lists macros for each meal option.

A few other things we do differently are:

  • We’ll send a text reminder on Thursdays to make sure you have your order in for the following week. Our customers are so busy they’ve told us they love this feature!
  • We provide a re-order button for customers who know what they like and stick to it. No need to go back through the selection process again when placing your order.
  • We make our own marinades and sauces from scratch. Daily.
  • We cook our meals the same day of your delivery to optimize every ounce of freshness.
  • We create a constant variety of flavors for each meal so nothing tastes the same.
  • We deliver meals that provide you the most competitive cost savings without sacrificing quality.
  •  We offer unlimited flexibility with customized meal options that adhere to your dietary requirements and taste palate.
  • We formulate our meal portion sizes to be nutritionally sound and consistent in quantity.
  • We consistently test our meals with the consumer market to ensure we solicit, incorporate and execute their feedback.

As the founders of Common Sense Eating, we stand behind our commitment to you.

Meet The Team

Darcie  Martinez

I am first and foremost a mother to four energetic (crazy) boys! As life would have it, I am raising them as a single mother, which has been and remains the most difficult (and rewarding) challenge I’ve faced. I’ve worked full-time for a website security company for the past few years and have been given me the opportunity to expand my knowledge in many facets of business acumen.

The one saving-grace that has kept me sane (most days) is my love of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) which I partake in every day. I am an avid practitioner/competitor of BJJ and have been training for three plus years and currently hold a blue belt under the Cobrinha/Alliance banner.

Besides BJJ, I weight train and recently started enjoying Hot Yoga too. I have found that a combination of these physical activities and clean eating have greatly helped me with my emotional, mental and physical state of being.

I know my life sounds crazy, busy and chaotic, and believe me, it is! More often than not, I’m overwhelmed and I haven’t even covered the most important aspect of my life…my Kids! When you consider kids schoolwork, extra-curricular activities, carpooling back and forth to EVERYWHERE and of course connecting with them on a daily basis, saying “it’s a lot” is the understatement of the century!

I came to a point where my life was becoming unbearably busy and I was losing quality time with my family, which was unacceptable. Something had to change. I knew there were many facets of life that were outside my control but the one thing I could control was when and what my family and I ate. I figured out that with proper planning and foresight, I could save time and alleviate the stress associated with cooking. I started preparing all of our meals once or twice a week and quickly realized it was a no brainer.

I’ve dedicated the last few years of my life finishing up and obtaining my Master’s degree in Accounting which has been a major achievement and accomplishment for me. I also have a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance which I obtained while working as an Accountant in Real Estate.

Like Darcie, I had no shortage of stress in my life. I was going to school full time while also working long-hours in a high-intensity job. What helped me cope was my passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). I knew once I got to class, my stress would melt away and I could leave it all on the mats.

I practice BJJ every day and am also an avid competitor trying enter a tournament at least once a month if possible. I currently have my purple belt under Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles and it has been a challenging, rewarding and enlightening eight-year journey to say the least!

Through the years of grueling training, I have learned how to cut weight and gain muscle mass in a natural and healthy way. This of course didn’t happen without a fair share of trial and error! In order to do this well, I have had to learn to listen to what my body needs as it relates to incorporating portion control and limiting certain foods (sugars, fast food) that affect my body in a negative manner.

There is so much that goes into training/competing as a physical aspect. I was formerly a physical fitness trainer and have always incorporated working out into my daily schedule, so that part has always been easy. However, for me the real challenge has been adopting clean eating habits and staying consistent.

I am well aware of the challenges of a busy lifestyle having experienced it first-hand. That’s why I am committed to bringing healthy and convenient meal options to the community through Common Sense Eating. I’ll make you successful in hitting that milestone each and every day…
